The Challenges
The new 17 storey Royal London Hospital occupies an area equivalent to 40 football pitches.
The five 2MVA diesel generators on the 13th floor plant room were to deliver critical stand-by power to the hospital.
MP Acoustic Control were tasked by a consortium led by the main contractor Skanska UK Plc, to reduce the engine noise levels to 70dBA at 10m from the 13th floor building louvres.
The Solutions
Mansfield Pollard provided a dedicated team of engineers to deliver the project from consultancy to installation.
Due to the installation restrictions, the custom built, drop-over acoustic enclosures were supplied ‘flat construction’ to enable a full on-site build.
The enclosures themselves were designed with integral inlet and outlet attenuators and fully motorised dampers to manage airflow.
