Better Ventilation: Does it mean better health?

In the wake of the Coronavirus pandemic, experts are calling for a “paradigm shift” in how we approach potential sources of environmental infection. Regulations in areas such as food standards, water and sanitation have historically always been robust, however in comparison, guidelines focusing on ventilation have been lacklustre. Research shows an undeniable link between health and ventilation, as such it is only a matter of time before stricter regulations become the norm.

Airborne pathogens, such as seasonal Influenza and COVID-19, have a serious impact on the health and safety of us all, in addition to the huge economic impacts.  Prof Cath Noakes, an environmental engineer at the University of Leeds, said in a recent BBC interview, “Air quality is invisible to us so we ignore it, yet it affects us day in, day out, carrying respiratory diseases which affects the probability of getting infections.”

There are growing concerns amongst the general public regarding ventilation as the UK approaches a return to normality in the coming months. Businesses and public spaces up and down the country now face a new normal as they begin to open up again, trying to balance the return with the health and safety of those they’re responsible for.

In 2019, Mansfield Pollard launched UVent, the most powerful suite of Ultraviolet Air Sterilisation systems available on the market today. Independently tested by The Pathogen Control Engineering research Group (PaCE) led by Prof. Cath Noakes, our UVent range was proven to kill up to 99.99% of all airborne pathogens including Coronavirus, MRSA, Influenza and many other harmful bacteria and diseases. These results vastly outperform similar HEPA filtration systems by exposing the pathogens to UV-C light, destroying their capacity to reproduce and eventually breaking them down to the molecular level.

UVent products continue to sterilise and make air safe to breathe across the whole of the UK including healthcare & medical facilities, workplaces, schools and retail premises. Coupled with our range of specialist Air Handling Units, we have the ability to provide ultra-clean air in even the most demanding of environments.

Calls to improve indoor ventilation have steadily increased over the last year and show no signs of slowing. As experts in air, we understand that ventilation has a direct impact on personal health and must be prioritised alongside comfort and energy efficiency.
