Former Apprentice Appointed Director

Bryan Bentley

Air management experts Mansfield Pollard – suppliers of energy efficient ventilation and acoustic control equipment to a global consumer base – has announced that Bryan Bentley has joined the organisation as its new Operations Director.

After starting his career as a sheet metal apprentice less than a mile away from what is now Mansfield Pollard’s headquarters, Bryan progressed to more senior management roles with different manufacturing companies and was promoted to General manager of WEC Group in 2008. Most recently Bryan held the position of Operations Director at Balmoral Tanks Ltd, specialising in steel industrial water tanks before accepting the position at MP.

Bryan said “Joining Mansfield Pollard was almost like a home-coming for me.  I am very familiar with their products and services, as these were exactly what I worked on as an apprentice and I also have a vast amount of experience in production automation and process management.  Mansfield Pollard’s philosophy of ‘open-door’ management and staff development is a breath of fresh air in this industry.  I firmly believe that employees are our greatest asset and my initial focus will be to further develop my team’s potential and allow them to do what they are good at.  When you combine robust production processes with fully engaged and empowered members of staff, you have the ingredients for an extremely successful and productive operation.

Joanna Robinson, Managing Director commented ‘Bryan brings a wealth of industry experience, relevant skills and significant expertise in areas of critical importance to Mansfield Pollard which we expect will prove invaluable as we continue to execute on our 5-year strategic growth initiative. With this outstanding addition, our highly qualified and experienced board will be well suited to oversee the company’s growth and drive meaningful value for all stakeholders.

We wanted to find a bit more about Bryan and what makes him tick, so we dug a little bit deeper………..

Tell us a bit about your work history and what we can expect:

I started as a sheet metal apprentice for CCR on Tyersal Lane and studied at Bradford & Ilkley College. Although I progressed my career within different areas of manufacturing I always tend to drift back to sheet metal because that is where my heart is. I’m a big believer in an open-door policy and that employees are any company’s greatest asset. I’ll be working closely with all my team to help develop this exciting business further.

I have worked in a many different industries in my career but I always tend to drift back to Sheetmetal as this is where my heart is at.

Previous companies:

  • Operations Director – Balmoral Tanks Ltd – Manufacturers of Bolted steel industrial water tanks.
  • General Manager / Operations Director – WEC Group – Privately owned Sub Fabrication group, responsible for 2 divisions.
  • General Manager – Nettleton’s & Porters Ltd – Leather production.
  • Operations Manager – Owens Corning Ltd – Insulation & Fibreglass manufacturing.
  • Apprentice to Site Manager – CCR Ltd – Stainless Steel ducting and catering equipment.

What will your role consist of at MP and what responsibilities and what skills / experience do you believe you can bring

My role at M&P will primarily be to grow the business by stabilising the Operations function and introducing robust processes and cost tracking to identify efficiency savings through improved workflow which will produce a reduction in lead times, whilst never compromising on quality.

I have over 20 years’ experience in the fabrication world including the introduction of large automated machinery which will help our business become the best air handling company in the world.

What attracted you to Mansfield Pollard and why do you believe you would be a good fit

I started my working career in the stainless sheet metal world less than 1 mile from our factory so joining Mansfield Pollard was like a home coming. I am very familiar with our products and services as these were exactly what I worked on as an apprentice. I have also had a huge amount of experience in the installation of large capex projects such as flat-bed lasers, punching equipment and press brakes.

I’m a big believer in that if you enjoy doing something then you will be very good at it and what I really enjoy is developing the potential in people. Our employees are our greatest asset and I will be working closely with all my team to grow the company. I have also seen great results from identifying areas where we can improve efficiencies through either re-mapping the factory floor or introducing new automated processes.
